about me:
I’ve crafted my teaching method with one goal in mind: helping people learn how to play the music in their heads. My background in education combined with my lifelong passion for music help my students hone listening skills, enjoy playful practice, and fulfill their unique goals.
Whether you've studied music since you were a little kid, gotten a bit rusty, or never studied at all, I know that my years of studying (and unstudying) music can help you reconnect with the musical part of yourself you’d love to know. I teach students of all ages and aspirations, with a focus on fluency, comfort, and deep listening.
I studied music performance at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina and earned my Master of Music Education at Belmont University in Nashville, where I focused on music pedagogy and psychology. I volunteered as a trombone and guitar teacher at W.O. Smith Music School, directed public school choir, band, and orchestra programs, and taught private lessons throughout.
To me, being a well-rounded musician means chasing your curiosity, learning how to practice, and learning how to fit your sound in with others. I’m confident that I can help you (or your child) move forward with your musical goals— whether through a one-time meeting, ongoing lessons, or group sessions. Let’s come up with a plan together!
I’d love to help you find your musical path.
TESTIMONIALS
MY TEACHING METHOD
-
Listen
It all starts by learning how to listen as a musician.
-
Sing
Next, we use our voice to prove cognitive understanding. “You’ve got to say it to play it.”
-
Play
The last step? We close the loop, playing what we knew was there all along. Music is like navigation - if you can learn to map from one place to another, you can learn to play anything.
